We don’t just provide help — we make sure it works

The “Ray of Hope” project, implemented by ASB Ukraine in partnership with FRIDA Ukraine, has been successfully completed.

To recap, the main goal of the project was to establish the “Ray of Hope” Rehabilitation Center for 180 children, based at the orphanage in Smila, Cherkasy Oblast.

To achieve this, ASB Ukraine and Frida Ukraine:

✅
Procured rehabilitation equipment
✅ Conducted rehabilitation training sessions for the institution’s staff
✅ Renovated the facility’s premises
✅ Supported the licensing process necessary for the center’s operations

Thanks to these comprehensive efforts, the “Ray of Hope” Rehabilitation Center was successfully created and opened on June 1, 2025.

However, our work didn’t stop there. It was time for Post-Activity Monitoring (PAM) — an evaluation conducted after project completion. This crucial stage allows us to assess the effectiveness of implemented activities, listen to the voices of beneficiaries, and make future steps even more targeted and impactful.

What did we assess?

✅ Whether the newly established rehabilitation center in Smila orphanage is functioning
✅ Its accessibility for children with disabilities and compliance with safety standards
✅ Whether the available equipment is sufficient for basic physical rehabilitation
✅ The effectiveness of staff training sessions
✅ Remaining needs and recommendations for future programming

What did we see in terms of numbers?

✅
292 people directly benefited from the project: including 167 children with disabilities and 125 staff members. Among the children: 35 have IDP status, 55 have limited mobility, and all require constant care.
✅ 9 training sessions were held, involving 89 staff members (11 men and 78 women), including 2 doctors, 8 nurses, and 115 members of supporting personnel.
✅ 100% of respondents confirmed that the center is fully operational.
✅ 96.5% rated safety and inclusiveness standards at the highest level.
✅ 88.5% considered the equipment sufficient for basic physical rehabilitation.
✅ 61.5% have already applied new knowledge in their daily work.
✅ 53.8% reported improved capacity to provide rehabilitation services.

Why is PAM important?

1. Humanitarian aid is not only about rapid response, it’s about lasting impact.
2. Transparency and accountability are the foundation of trust and quality.
3. We want local partners, just like our team, to grow and for communities to experience real change.
4. Every project is not an endpoint but a step toward more systemic support.

PAM is our way to listen, improve, and act responsibly.

Keep moving forward with open eyes, open hearts, and a clear understanding that every child deserves a life with dignity.

We are sincerely grateful to Aktion Deutschland Hilft for funding the project.
