Financial assistance is always important

The registration stage for cash assistance providing for the most vulnerable categories of the population affected by the conflict within the project «Humanitarian assistance in the areas of basic needs, food security, hygiene, winterization and psychosocial support for conflict-affected people of Ukraine», implemented by the ASB Ukraine team with the financial support of the German Federal Foreign Office, has been successfully completed.
Assistance was provided to internally displaced persons who have limited financial resources and comply with the clear socio-economic vulnerability criteria. As a result, 692 families, consisting of 1,500 people, who live in the Kyiv and Lviv regions, received assistance.
During one of the monitoring visits we had a conversation with Mrs. Nadiia who received assistance from ASB Ukraine.
Mrs. Nadiia was a resident of the small village named Bohoiavlenka, which is located in the Donetsk region. The whole life of the woman was spent here until the the full-scale invasion.
Despite the constant shelling, Mrs. Nadiia decided to stay home, while many of her fellow villagers left their property.
Whenever the air-raid warning as well as explosion issue, she was forced to hide in the basement, where as mall shelter was arranged. However, one morning, in consequence of powerful artillery shelling, her house was destroyed.
Mrs. Nadiia trapped in the rubble. Fortunately, she was saved by caring people who, risking their own lives, pulled her out.
Due to severe injuries, Nadiia was hospitalized. Doctors fought for her life for a long time. Fortunately, Mrs. Nadiia survived and continues to fight.The rehabilitation period was long. Finally, she received a new housing in a retirement home located in the Kolonshchyna village in the Kyiv region, where everything is arranged for a comfortable life.
The ASB Ukraine multi-purpose cash assistance played an important part in the new stage of her life. Unfortunately, the only personal belongings the woman had left were her documents. Thus, whereby this assistance, she was able to buy the necessary clothes, which were demonstrated to ASB staff during the monitoring visit.
Despite all the hardships, Mrs. Nadiia believes that a happy future will come soon. Smiling, she thanks all the people who saved and supported her.
«The most important thing is that I’m not alone and I know it. », - says the woman.
