About us
The Arbeiter-Samariter-Bund Deutschland e.V. (ASB) is a non-political and non-denominational charity and relief organisation. We help all people – regardless of their political, ethnic, national and religious affiliation. ASB’s motto is “We help here and now.”
Since its foundation in 1888, ASB has provided services that focus on people’s needs, including care for the elderly, rescue services and First Aid, assistance for children and young people, support for people with disabilities and those suffering from mental problems, as well as Foreign Aid and adult education.
More than 1.2 million people in Germany share ASB’s humanitarian and democratic principles and support our non-profit association with their membership and their personal commitment.
Starting with the first mission abroad in 1921, ASB is active also outside Germany. ASB’s Foreign Aid Department provides both direct emergency relief to people hit by man-made or natural disasters and longer-term rehabilitation measures designed to rapidly help restore the livelihood of refugees, internally displaced persons and other vulnerable groups.
Since the beginning of conflict in Eastern Ukraine in 2014, ASB has been implementing humanitarian interventions in the country in cooperation with the local Samaritan organization. In 2016, ASB opened a representative office in Ukraine. Currently ASB has offices in Kyiv and Sievierodonetsk.
Since 2018, ASB Country Office Ukraine is supporting conflict-affected populations in the 5-kilometer zone along the ‘contact line’ (government-controlled areas of Luhanska and Donetska oblasts) with food, hygiene and winterization assistance. The project activities are funded by the Federal Foreign Office of the Federal Republic of Germany.
